Nationally-made filling materials: self-cure composite «Prizma» and light-cure material «Prizmafil» – have been produced since 1995 and have become known as materials which meet all requirements needed for fulfilling esthetic, long-lasting restoration, and which practicing doctors may afford.

The producer of these materials, JSC «StomaDent», offers to consumers a hydrophilic sublayer which increases the strength of adhesive bond of composite materials with dentine.

Purpose of present work

To determine the influence of hydrophilic sublayer on the strength of adhesive bonding with tooth enamel and dentine in vitro of nationally-made composite materials «Prizma» and «Prizmafil». To study the dependence of edge permeability on the strength of adhesive bond.

The strength of adhesive bond has been measured by the shift method at experimental machine «Instron» in accordance with GOST R 51202-98. Tests were made on samples prepared of 80 permanent teeth, removed because of periodontal illness.

In total there were 4 series of tests for filling materials «Prizma» and «Prizmafil», 10 samples in each series with the use of hydrophilic sublayer and without it.

Evaluation of edge permeability was made on 40 removed teeth sealed with these materials with subsequent thermo-cycling and submerging in 2% solution of blue methylene for 2 hours. 4 groups of samples from each tested composite material have been prepared for the experiment.

Results received

The use of hydrophilic sublayer as a separate stage does not change the strength of adhesive bond to enamel.

Tests show that preliminary dentine treatment by hydrophilic sublayer increases substantially the strength of adhesive bond to dentine.

Evaluation of edge permeability has shown that penetration of coloring agent took place in the 3d group of samples of «Prizmafil» used for working with enamel and dentine and sealed it in accordance with instruction for use without hydrophilic sublayer. In other groups there was no penetration of coloring agent.

Conclusions

1. The use of hydrophilic sublayer increases the strength of adhesive bond to dentine for self-cure material «Prizma» by 7.8 MPa and for light-cure material «Prizmafil» by 5.4 MPa.

2. The use of hydrophilic sublayer as a separate stage does not change the strength of adhesive bond to enamel.

3. Analysis of edge permeability of «Prizma» and «Prizmafil» allows to conclude that the use of sublayer decreases substantially edge permeability.
